Secrets of Affirmations

“Everything is vibration, even thought”
This powerful statement by Albert Einstein has become like a mantra for those studying the law of attraction. According to this law, whatever our dominant vibration is will attract to us things in our lives that have a similar vibration. That is to say, if we are fearful of a particular thing, like growing old for example, we will attract into our lives the aging people who have difficulties in the area we fear, like Alzheimer's or hip replacements. Another example might be that our anxiety around not having enough money shows up as jealousy over someone’s good fortune or triggers our “not good enough” button all too often. Our reaction to these “button pushers” only seem to make matters worse instead of helping with a solution. Of course, not wanting these things in our life we begin looking for a way out. Many people, in response to becoming aware of the law of attraction, begin using positive affirmations so that they can counteract this vibration. It is an extremely popular practice which has led to a multi-million dollar business all by itself. But do they really work? Can we really turn around the aging process by thinking and repeating words or phrases such as “I am forever young”? Can we turn around our financial status around by repeating “I am rich”? Let's take a brief look at those questions and see why some people are changing their lives and others are not.
If you are repeating an affirmation to “keep away” something in life that you do not want then you are in for a long climb up the hill of fulfillment. The very energy of your fear or anxiety will most likely be the underlying dominant energy, or at the very least, a conflict of energy which will water down your desire, keeping it at arms distance. Instead, focus on what you do want from a place of alignment with the deepest truth of your desire and see what happens.
A beautiful story about how to look at this (what you want vs what you don't want) comes from Mother Theresa who was once asked if she would join a group of anti war demonstrators in a protest march against the Vietnam war. She replied, ”No, I'm sorry I can't take part in this activity. But if you ever have a pro peace rally I'll be there.” Can you feel the difference?
Paramahansa Yogananda, one of the first great yogi's to make his home in America, has this to say about affirmations: ”Words saturated with sincerity, conviction, faith, and intuition are like highly explosive vibration bombs, which, when set off, shatter the rocks of difficulties and create the change desired.”
Please note that the words “saturated with sincerity, conviction, faith and intuition” are paramount if we are to be in alignment with the core desire of our affirmations. Otherwise they are like a “husk without the corn.” Positive, successful affirmations are not against anything, for that is the key to struggle. Instead, they must be sufficiently saturated with the a fore mentioned qualities so that we feel the truth behind their intention giving them the power to penetrate the subconscious mind.
To add dimension to this, the science of neuroplasticity has proven that the mind does not differentiate between reality and thoughts of reality. It has been known for a long time, especially among pro athletes, that when they practice certain movements in their mind, the physical execution of those movements are carried out with much greater ease and efficiency. It turns out that muscles can be trained and brains can literally grow just by focusing our thoughts. In other words, just by visualizing and thinking about your desire can create a strong electrical field of positive action and attraction.
Think of how these principles might be used in your everyday live to better yourself. There really are no limits. The question now becomes, what do you really want?
